Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath were an English heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Their dark sound, powerful guitar riffs, and haunting lyrics helped shape the heavy metal genre and influenced generations of musicians.

The band originally performed under names including Polka Tulk Blues Band and Earth before becoming Black Sabbath in 1969. Their music stood apart from the colourful rock scene of the late 1960s, using heavy guitar tones, gloomy themes, and horror-inspired ideas.

Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1970, followed later that year by Paranoid. The latter became one of their most important records, featuring famous songs such as “Paranoid” and “Iron Man.” Albums like Master of Reality, Vol. 4, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath further established their reputation.

Over the years, Black Sabbath went through several line-up changes. Ronnie James Dio became their vocalist after Osbourne's departure and recorded acclaimed albums including Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. Osbourne later reunited with the band, and the original members returned for several major performances.

Black Sabbath's influence reaches far beyond their record sales. They helped create the sound and attitude of heavy metal and inspired countless bands worldwide. Their legacy remains powerful, making Black Sabbath one of rock music's most important and enduring bands.
