Sonu Nigam is one of India’s most recognised and versatile playback singers. Born on 30 July 1973 in Faridabad, Haryana, he began singing at a very young age and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Bollywood. His early musical training under Hindustani classical singer Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan helped shape the strong and expressive voice that became his trademark.

Nigam has sung in many Indian languages and has explored a wide range of styles, including classical, pop, ghazal, devotional, rock and Sufi music. During the 1990s, songs such as “Accha Sila Diya,” “Sandese Aate Hai” and “Yeh Dil Deewana” helped establish him as a popular playback singer. His 1999 album Deewana also became a major success.

The 2000s brought some of his most memorable work, including “Suraj Hua Maddham,” “Tanhayee,” and “Kal Ho Naa Ho.” His performance of “Kal Ho Naa Ho” earned him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer and a Filmfare Award.

Beyond singing, Sonu Nigam has worked as a music director, actor, television host and judge. He has also performed internationally and collaborated with artists from different musical backgrounds. In 2022, he received the prestigious Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian music.

With his remarkable range, emotional delivery and ability to adapt to different musical styles, Sonu Nigam continues to hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers.
